studies...

- Workshops, high tide and migration watches and other events...
- A winter programme of monthly illustrated talks by renowned

The society was founded in October 1988 and,
based on individual membership, it quickly became an important part of the county
birdwatching scene.
The objectives of CAWOS are to promote and
encourage the study, recording and preservation of species and habitats within the
designated recording area of Cheshire and Wirral. The county is uniquely placed within the
British Isles and attracts a variety of breeding and wintering birds.
The society liases with other local societies,
conservation groups, statutory bodies, local councils and government organisations. It
also periodically holds conferences and exhibitions to promote birdwatching in general and
Cheshire in particular.
Threats to habitats are a very real problem
these days and to be able to counter these, it is essential that we hold as much
information on the countys avifauna as possible. Bird populations do fluctuate
naturally, but the decline of certain species is giving cause for concern. You can help us
monitor the situation. Your records are not only published annually, but they give CAWOS
vital information that can be used to protect these birds and their habitats.
With the wealth and variety of habitats and
associated birdlife, Cheshire and Wirral can offer much in the way of birding.
Help us keep it that way
